Pohli was a naval attache at the American Embassy in New Delhi, India. With almost three decades of service to the U,S Navy, he was the commanding officer of the Treasure Island, was assigned to the amphibious forces during the Korean Conflict, commanded a destroyer in the Vietnam War, and served on a carrier division staff in the Gulf of Tonkin.

He earned a B.S. in engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy.

Pohli passed away on May 23, 2011.
