Pulitzer Prize winning poet, Gary Snyder, owned this house in 1967. He is associated with "The Beat Generation" of writers that came to fame in the 1950s. Renowned artist and writer, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, called Snyder, "The Thoreau of the Beat Generation." In 1974 Snyder was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for "Turtle Island."
